I have never thought much about the end of life. I once knew a psychotherapist who would not discuss the subject, its power so frightening that she decompensated when anyone brushed against mortality. My philosophy has been – at least up until now – not to worry. It’s going to happen.
Just off the red-eye from Seattle, Washington. A beautiful city with wonderful people. I was in Seattle for some of my Union for Reform Judaism work on our project on aging and baby boomers and spent Sunday with the Jewish Family Service speaking at a gathering that explored the “art” of care-giving. Several dozens of people gathered on a 70 degrees sunny day to talk and share issues and stories about their own journeys and how Jewish texts could provide a guide for this experience. It is truly amazing that this session brings out such powerful emotions amongst the attendees. Everyone has a story and each story, while similar, is unique. Read more

Actually, the census has already done that.
As of January 1, 2011 (that is like NOW), one Baby Boomer in the USA will turn 65 every 8 seconds! How is that for a way to welcome in 2011?
The aging of the baby boomer generation is now in full swing and, as we are beginning to see, the pundits and experts are beginning to take notice. The discussions on entitlements will be revved up in the coming years as we begin to contemplate our own need to tap into them and worry if our children will have the same luxury (or ability).
